Internet bundles ranging from 50MB to 5GB will qualify for the bonus airtime from a minimum of KSh20 to a maximum of KSh700 shillings, while those who purchase unlimited data bundles will get free subscriptions to the Holla tariff.
The offer, available only to prepaid customers, is named ‘Opportunity changes with Orange’ and will have Olympic javelin athlete Julius Yego as its ambassador.
The Olympian, nicknamed the YouTube Athlete, learnt the art of throwing the Javelin through online videos, hence his role in the campaign signifying how the internet can be used as a path to achieving goals, dreams and ambitions.
“At Orange, we view internet as a solution and mobile internet as a solution in your hands. Yego is the first of many who will give us the privilege of telling their story of a dream that became a reality through mobile Internet,” said chief executive officer (CEO) Mickael Ghossein.
The inducement to mobile internet users will however be viewed as a strategy by the company to take a greater bite of the ever growing internet market, with mobile data subscriptions accounting for 99 per cent of all subscriptions according to CCK statistics.
Between September and December 2012 internet subscriptions on the mobile platform grew by almost one million from 8.43 million to 9.4 million.
The promotion will also act to augment the existing reward scheme where the company offers varied amounts of airtime dependent on their usage as well as the length of time that they have been on the network.
