Speaking during the press event at Computex, in Taiwan, Acer's president Jim Wong told the crowd the device is "the only one-handed tablet in the world with Windows 8... created by a collaboration between Acer, Microsoft and Intel".
Acer said the phones includes the full version of Microsoft Office Home or student editions, a move that is seen to target the professional portion of the tablet market.
Wong added: "You can edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint docs on the go.
"With the Iconia W3, Acer is giving those who create, read, work and play in the Windows environment a device they can hold in one hand that does it all.”
Referring to the device as a "wonderful baby", Intel took to the stage to tout the Iconia W3 which is powered by its own Intel Atom Z2760 processor alongside 2GB of RAM and integrated Intel Media Accelerator 3650 graphics.
Running the full version of Windows 8 Professional, the Iconia W3 will be available in 32GB and 64GB versions along with an optional full-sized wireless bluetooth keyboard.
As part of the announcement, Acer also launched its very first phablet, the Liquid S1, together with the Acer Aspire S7 and S3 Ultrabooks.
