The channel offers shows covering a variety of categories, including gadgets and gaming, as well as features such as dating and internet trends.
Subscribers will also have access to local and international music videos online.
Nico Nel, creative director and creator of AlternaTV, said: “You either set the trend or you follow it,” TimesLIVE reported.
Nel explained South Africa has yet to catch up with other countries as in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US), where the technology is already thriving.
The South African online channel will also build the interactive branding industry through creating possibilities for engagement on social media during show broadcasting.
“By incorporating brands within the structure of an online TV show, coupled with the real-time Twitter and Facebook interaction whilst a show is airing, AlternaTV has an attractive model for both content creators and advertisers alike,” Nel told Equities News
Original, as well as selected content, will enable subscribers to “get the best of what they want from the internet and entertainment industry,” he said.
Targeting the youth, the channel aims to give users an enhanced web-based TV experience.
Launching within four months from its creation process, AlternaTV has hopes of reaching 20,000 viewers by October.
