TweetDeck was bought by Twitter in March 2011 for around US$40 million and replaced its founder Iain Dodsworth as director with Twitter’s chief executive Dick Costolo.
The registered company has now been struck off by the UK authorities because it had repeatedly failed to file its accounts for the past eight months, reports the Guardian.
A spokesperson for Twitter said: “TweetDeck the product continues to thrive as part of Twitter, but the old company has been dormant for some time, with no outstanding liabilities; hence our agreement with the move to dissolve it.”
TweetDeck’s Android, iPhone and Air versions are being shut down this week as Twitter looks to focus on developing the desktop tool.
