Barashenkov reportedly wrote for Vice.com three years ago: “Doing some quick math, that outs anywhere between thirty and sixty-four semen receptacles within a fifteen meter radius of our sleeping grounds.”
Linda Stupart, an artist was responsible for exposing Barashenkov and his colleague Moorosi via Twitter, told The Star newspaper (IOL News) Barashenkov had made the offensive comment against women three years ago
FHM fired Barashenkov and Moorosi with immediate effect last week for the “incredibly offensive comments” made by the two, which caused a social media furore.
In their apology statement, Barashenkov and Moorosi criticised the public who lashed out at the two for their comments, saying: “The country reacts to misguided and private jest with a public witch hunt, with name-calling and demonising.”
Stupart called their statement of apology an “aggressive non-apology”.
This is what one Twitter user had to say about Barashenkov’s offensive comment which reportedly featured on Vice.com:
It makes me feel worthless, violated and despairing when men refer to me/other women/women in general as semen receptacles or similar. FYI
