“The success of Mahala Thursdays is testament to the fact that we are in tune with the needs and demands of our customers for more value,” said Serame Taukobong, Chief Marketing Officer at MTN SA.
Competition is rising as Cell C launched a campaign contesting opposition networks’ rates on Monday, February 4, this week.
It was followed by the company’s release of the SUPACHARGE package deal, soon after Vodacom’s Power Hour special call rates were announced.
The Mahala package refunds MTN prepaid and TopUp subscribers who recharge on Thursdays with 50 percent of the voucher amount when above R10 (US$1.12).
Extra airtime will, however, expire on the same day of reward.
Meanwhile Vodacom also has airtime addition offers running from time to time, with customers receiving up to R6 (US$ 0.67) extra when topping up with the specified vouchers by a certain date, as SMSs inform subscribers.
Mahala Thursdays were initially introduced in March 2012.
