Egypt’s Nilesat 201 satellite was successfully launched last week, boosting broadband services in North Africa and the Middle East.
Telecommunications services and digital broadcasting will be provided through the North African country’s latest satellite, which was launched in French Guiana, in South America.
The capacity of the satellite will allow for an extra 500 channels, to be added to the 560 currently in operation.
Egypt’s information minister Anas el-Fikki said the satellite would serve broadcasting needs for the next 15 years and cover the Middle East, southern Europe and North Africa.
Nilesat is the third launched by Arianespace for the Egyptians and replaces Nilesat 101.
