Kenya’s new dating site prioritises safety

Vetting new members and guaranteeing user safety are among the driving forces behind DateMe Kenya, which launched at the weekend.

Speaking to HumanIPO, the site’s founder, Ian Isherwood, said among the precautionary measures they take to ensure safety is manually approving every new member, a move that helps them keep track of all their members.

“We have very strict joining processes and we don’t just accept everyone who signs up. We believe in quality rather than quantity,” Isherwood said.

Additionally, any member who feels uncomfortable by anything suspicious on the site is encouraged to report it, which takes 10 seconds.

This, according to Isherwood, will help members have control on what can be allowed on the site.

“If, for example, someone messages another member inappropriately, then that member can ‘report’ the message. DateMe Kenya will see this (should it breach our terms and conditions) and will block the culprit, without refund,” Isherwood added.

“Giving power to the members allows them to know we value what they think and will help us keep them, and DateMe Kenya safe.”

The site whose inspiration was the gaping gap in the Kenyan dating scene has also employed a ‘verified’ badge that can be used to show that DateMe Kenya has verified that they are who they say they are.

DateMe Kenya was set up in early 2013 and launched on Saturday, July 27.
