Tinapa Knowledge City hosts hackathon

The Tinapa Knowledge City in Calabar, Cross Rivers state, are hosting a hackathon organised by the Information Technology Developer Entrepreneurship Accelerator (iDEA), beginning today.

The event is in partnership with the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON).

According to the organisers, the goal of the hackathon is to promote technology innovation and creative thinking.

It is also aimed at showcasing the nation’s software startup developers who would be assisted to become competitive in the global market through latest skills acquisition.

Chris Uwaje, ISPON president, said the hackathon was the product of the communication technology ministry’s successful establishment of the technology knowledge incubator in Tinapa.

At the hackathon, developers over 42 hours will come up with ideas, form teams and build a prototype of their app.

“Teams have full ownership of everything they build at the event and are free to do with it as they wish. The prototype would then be presented to the hackathon judges and three winners will be selected to win cash prizes, devices and software,’ the organisers stated.
