Caxton acquires Habari Media

South African media group Caxton has acquired independent digital media house Habari Media, bringing high-profile African clients including bbc.com, LinkedIn and 2go into the Caxton group.

The cost of the purchase has not been disclosed, although it has been stated Habari will continue to operate under its own brand and maintain its operational management team.

“The buyout represents a huge opportunity for Habari Media and we are very excited to become a part of the Caxton group,” said Wayne Bischoff, managing director (MD) of Habari Media.

“We look forward to exploiting synergies across the existing portfolio of Caxton’s media platforms and brands, whilst continuing to provide existing partnerships and advertisers with the same level of professional service they have become accustomed to.”

Alongside Bischoff, Garth Rhoda will remain Habari’s sales director; Marius Greeff commercial director, and Byron John stays as insights director.

Adrian Hewlett, chief executive officer (CEO) of Habari Media, is leaving the company to pursue the below the line venture he founded in 2012, MACHINE.

“The company can continue to grow and enhance their existing offering by combining all the elements that have made the business so successful over the last nine years with the additional firepower and media assets within the Caxton group,” said Hewlett.

“Habari Media, and its ambitious team, will benefit immeasurably from being within the Caxton stable, a company which is not only committed to, but has the means to, make a meaningful impact on the digital market in Africa.”

Habari Media was founded in 2004, and has grown to represent prestigious accounts in Africa including bbc.com, LinkedIn, MTV, 2Go, All4Women and Autotrader.
