Get tips for a digital job at GGDCPT

Geek Girl Dinners Cape Town (GGDCPT) will be hosting an evening with female role models giving tips for securing digital jobs tomorrow (July 23) to promote ICT for women.

Three successful women in digital occupations, Kat Scholtz, Nikki Cockcroft and Samantha Harper, will be discussing ways to secure a position in online.

Kat Scholtz has been working at Quirk Education for five years, playing an important role in the management and development of the Quirk Graduate Programme.

In her current position as head of courses, she works with the production and video of content and other e-learning courses.

Serial digital industry successor Nikki Stokes’ prolific curriculum vitae (CV) includes chief executive officer (CEO) positions at 365 Digital, Primedia Online, Prezence Digital and the Digital Media and Marketing Association (DMMA).

Also head of online at Woolworths since 2011, Stokes went from being a University Cape Town (UCT) graduate with a business degree in Information Systems to managing web development amongst other areas.

Founder of IT company Nu Beginnings, Samantha Harper revolutionised recruitment processes with her skills and knowledge.

Suhaifa Naidoo, chairperson of GGDCPT, said: “This dinner’s theme on how to find and keep a job in digital aims to influence more women to apply for tech jobs or at least consider it.

“We have amazing panelists with years of experience in the industry, especially someone like Nikki. They are going to add valuable expertise to the dinner.”

Naidoo emphasised the importance of young women choosing to study in fields such as computer science to promote more females securing jobs in the technology industry.

Student attendance has been growing at the dinners, with members of Leap School also coming for the first time with sponsored tickets by Emagination Info Solutions.

Taking place at the Sinns restaurant in Gardens at 7pm, limited tickets are still available.

Lisa Huang, a Geek Girl attendee, said: “Wow, a powerhouse of panelists indeed.

“Can’t wait to connect with all the wonderful women in Cape Town – it’s great to be a Geek Girl.”

HumanIPO reported earlier this year on previous GGDCPT events, featuring relevant themes such associal entrepreneurship.
