South African chat app Mxit has partnered with global sports match analysis company Amisco Group to give subscribers access to mobile-based match viewing.

A first for South African soccer fans, real-time information on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) is available during live games.

Pre- and post-game statistics on teams and players are also featured in the official club apps.

News, match reports, player profiles, live match updates and engagement opportunities with all 16 PSL teams is open on Mxit as a community.

South African teams Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana will also be added later this year.

Ryan Paterson, regional head of the Amisco Group for Africa, said: “The community apps on Mxit will be the perfect location for fans to get up-to-the-minute facts and stats on the games and players, increasing fan engagement and allowing them to share their views with others.”

According to Paterson, Mxit provides the solution for a second screen experience Amisco has been searching for.

“We want to create an environment where the enjoyment of the game can stretch way beyond the televised match,” he said.

With 6.5 million monthly active South African users on Mxit, reaching soccer fans is made easy, especially as the app functions on more than 3,000 different phones.

Paterson said: “Mxit is the only social media channel in the country that can reach all soccer fans regardless of where they live and what phone they have, which is what made it the obvious choice for us.”
