TCS adds Zambia to its African portfolio for e-tax services

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has awarded a three year contract to Tata Cosultancy Services (TCS) to modernise the country’s domestic tax system.

TCS, an Indian company, has already carried out similar projects in its home country, seven in the United States and a further two in Africa with the Uganda Revenue Authority and the Kenya Revenue Authority.

“The TaxOnline project has emerged as one of our critical modernization initiatives aimed at reducing the cost of compliance and increasing processing efficiency,” said Berlin Msiska, commissioner general at the ZRA.

“TaxOnline will also enable the authority to detect and deter any tax evasions through the intense cross analysis of the tax information and tax compliance, which will eventually improve tax collection.”

The new system will feature an integrated software application with a 24/7 portal for e-services, data migration, training, rollout, warranty and operational support.

“The taxation project is all about service delivery transformation through a technology-led, service-oriented approach,” said Tanmoy Chakrabarty, vice president and global head of  government solutions at TCS.

“The new TCS tax framework will help the Zambian government offer world-class delivery of taxation services to its citizens as well as provide an effective monitoring system for its tax officials.”
