iMaverick, a digital South African newspaper, has introduced an iPad version of its editions following a partnership with Snapplify, a mobile solution for publishers.
In 2011, iMaverick introduced its first iPad integration making iMaverick the first tablet-only interactive daily newspaper in Africa, and the third worldwide. iMaverick is the sister publication of South Africa’s Daily Maverick.
The iMaverick contains the entire content of a newspaper although with a more magazine-like appearance. It also has full colour pages utilising multimedia and the full visual capabilities of a tablet.
The challenge for iMaverick was not just to build another simple app, but needed an interface that would take advantage of the iPad capabilities.
During the Tech4Africa held in 2011, Snapplify demonstrated how they could add value to iMaverick more than any solutions they had looked for.
“The steps to transform iMaverick into a content-rich digital publication are extremely simple. There is no conversion process needed at all, and once the PDF file of iMaverick has been compiled and is ready for distribution, it simply gets uploaded to the CMS and is ready for reading in the app.” Styli Charalambous, CEO of iMaverick said.
Early this month, the iMaverick newspaper was introduced to the Android platform — with the same help of Snapplify.
iMaverick started in 2011 and since then, it is projected to have over 45,000 paying customers. The monthly fee to access the iPad version is R87.
