The Kenyan Tourism Board (KTB) has launched its first mobile application, allowing tourists who visit Kenya with a platform to share their experiences.
According to the KTB the Magical Kenya app will make tourist experiences seamless by providing the necessary information about communities, sites and places through five categories, namely Generic Information, Destinations, What to do, What to see and Directory.
KTB managing director Muriithi Ndegwa said the board is taking advantage of mobile phone penetration and the increased use of internet-based technologies.
“Almost half the population of the earth now uses mobile communications. A billion mobile subscribers were added in the last four years to leave the total standing at 3.2 billion, with much of the growth attributed to the use of data. It is therefore imperative that we use this ubiquitous tool of communication to market in Kenya,” he said.
The app, available on both the Android and iOS platforms, also works as a trip planner and diary for travellers to build an itinerary and document their travels.
Location features will connect travellers with local businesses, hotels, restaurants and other service providers in the industry. It further allows travellers to create souvenir videos that can be integrated with social media sites.
Players in the tourism industry can list their businesses on the app, increasing their visibility.
“It is the perfect travel companion, helping you explore Kenya whether one is preparing for a trip to Kenya, already in the country or simply one is curious and wants to learn more about this beautiful destination,” Ndegwa said.
