ForgetMeNot Africa has launched Job Xpress, a service that allows users to send job applications via text messaging.
This service will attach job application letters and curriculum vitae as mobile emails from “any partner network on the platform.”
Nigeria’s telecom network, Glo Mobile is already implementing the service. “The Job Xpress app will help plug the socioeconomic gap, making job applications easier for every one of Glo Mobile’s subscribers regardless of the make and model of their mobile phone,” Samson Isa, Globacom’s Head of Valued Added Services commented.
Research suggests that over 40 million young people in Africa are jobless. Most companies these days prefer digital job applications from potential candidates and Job Xpress will aid in that endeavor.
“The OECD’s research showed that a major concern for many young Africans is that jobs are only given to people with connections or relatives,” Jeremy George, ForgetMeNot Africa’s Chief Executive Officer said.
“Job Xpress helps to level the playing field by giving job applicants a direct method of application, and is a step towards tackling barriers to employment that currently affects young, bright and eager to work Africans,” he said.
The beauty of this service is that it uses the ForgetMeNot Africa Optimizer that allows Internet access to data-less phones. This will ensure that the service reaches the rural Africa where the Internet access is still shaky.
