mPawa gearing up to pitch job matching app at DEMO-Africa

A job matching app that targets the blue collar sector will have an opportunity to present its solutions and the inaugural DEMO-Africa to be held this week in Nairobi, Kenya.

The application helps companies and job seekers to find each other and was incubated at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology programme in Ghana. It was formed in August 2012.

“With an mPawa account, companies can post vacancies and workers are matched to the job post using mPawa’s matching algorithm. On the worker side, mPawa gives job seekers the chance to register and start receiving relevant jobs via SMS,” the company explained.

The company is already making traction with 12 companies signed up for its services. The Administrative Manager of JVC Limited, Nathalie Ocran-Edmund said, “By identifying the challenges that companies face in the recruitment of blue collar workers, mPawa has been able to offer a first class, easy to handle service at our doorstep.”

“We believe that with the advent of information technology, online services such as mPawa will become reference-working tools for the economic sector in Africa,” Ocran-Edmund added.

Securing a job has become one of the common challenges in most countries. Employers too have a problem to hire the right staff with the right skills. Many job sites have been opened across the continent to ease the process of finding jobs and recruiting workers.

In July this year, ForgetMeNot Africa launched a job application system named Job Xpress, that utilizes the power of mobile SMS to deliver job reports and applications.

“We are creating an ecosystem where we connect highly skilled blue collar workers with relevant jobs and employers with qualified candidates. For the first time ever in Africa, blue-collar workers can have a documented CV with track record of past working experience,” Maxwell Donkor, the CEO of mPawa said.

The opportunity to pitch at the DEMO-Africa will give mPawa and other startups the much needed stage to expand their market in Africa and the world and inviting partners and investors to share in their goals.
