Samsung announced that it will, in partnership with Rovio, bring the popular Angry Birds game, which has been downloaded more than one billion times across different platforms, to its high-end 3D SMART TVs. The motion-controlled game will be available for download via Samsung Apps.
The game will be available on Samsung Smart TV models, which will become the first brand to support the hit game without the need for an external set-top box.
Justin Shaw, Business Leader for Visual Display at Samsung Electronics South Africa said Samsung Smart TV will become the first TV to offer the world’s most popular game as well as set a new standard in the industry by offering a game for smart TVs controlled by hand gestures.
Samsung’s Motion Control technology, will allow SMART TV owners to play the world famous Angry Birds game on the TV screen. By just waving their hands, customers will be able to control the game and control the slingshot along with activating each birds’ unique features.
“This evolution of the gaming and application technology is just another way Samsung is bringing innovation to the forefront of consumer technology by ensuring the availability of technologies across platforms and providing consumers with an enriched entertainment experience,” Shaw said.
Shaw added that to this end, Samsung would continue to offer such applications and much more.
“In fact, the company plans to offer Video-on-Demand Angry Birds animations developed by Rovio in the near future. The animations will be available first on Samsung Smart TVs and is available to the South African market immediately,” he concluded.
Samsung worked closely with the Finnish game development company, Rovio, over the past year to allow it to be the first Smart TV maker to have a game developed to work with Motion Control.
