South Africa-based mobile network operator Vodacom has announced it has teamed up with Primedia Broadcasting to bring 94.7 Highveld Stereo and 94.5 KFM to listeners the ultimate integrated virtual and social media game called Gotcha!
The game will engage listeners to start a search for a virtual wallet. Users will be required to download an application that they would use to track the virtual wallet. The player who locates the virtual wallet can exchange it for cash.
“The name of the game is to be as creative as possible in evading other players and hanging on to the wallet for as long as possible. 94.7 Highveld Stereo and 94.5 KFM presenters will keep listeners up to date over the air waves, thus interacting with players on a real-time basis,” Vodacom stated.
Vodacom’s executive marketing manager Enzo Scarcella said that the launch of this competition underlined the fact that smartphone adoption in the country was on the increase.
There are almost five million smartphones on Vodacom’s SA network alone, growing at more than 40 percent annually, he said.
“Gotcha! SA is a great test case to see whether South Africa has passed the tipping point in terms of smartphone adoption whereby brands fundamentally change their behaviour from broadcasting to consumers to truly interacting with them on a 1:1 basis,” Enzo said.
The game is available for download for Android, BlackBerry or Apple smartphone and is available for download on Vodacom’s app store.
