Cell C levels rates for calling overseas

Subscribers on Cell C, a South Africa-based cellular network, can now make calls to Brazil, Indonesia, Spain and Finland at 99 cents per minute on per second billing during peak and off-peak hours.

The company has added another 12 destinations to its 99 cents international call zones taking the number of overseas regions subscribers can call at the operators’ flat rate to 50.

Cell C offers a flat rate for all calls –- whether a local fixed-line or mobile number in the respective country –- regardless of the tariff plan customers are on. It does not differentiate between postpaid and prepaid customers, said the company’s chief executive Alan Knott.

Knott explained that their now trade mark, “99c” per minute, on per second billing call rate is South Africa’s best international rate for non-voice over Internet protocol, IP.

He said that the 99 cent international call rate is on average 77 percent lower than rates of other mobile operators in the country to the 50 countries in Africa, 6 regions in America, 18 regions in Asia, 5 regions in Oceania as well as 16 regions in Europe.

Cell C is among the four mobile network operators in South Africa that offers products and services including voice, Internet and voice mail services. It currently has over 8 million customers.
