It is for hackers exploring technologies to filter and visualise information, and for journalists who use technology to find and tell stories. The worlds of technologists and journalists are coming together, as reporting goes digital and Internet companies becomes media empires. Journalists call themselves “hacks”, someone who can churn out words in any situation. Hackers use the digital equivalent of duct tape to whip out code.Hacker-journalists try to bridge these two worlds.

88mph Accelerator Program Application Deadline

Where: 88mph Garage, 40 Piedmont Plaza, Ngong Road, Nairobi
The 88mph accelerator program is a funding program by Africa’s first accelerator program 88mph. In this year’s program, 88mph intend to inject $200, 000 in 15 startups. Up to $24k will be available per startup, that investment level will take a 6 -18% equity stake in the business. The deadline for applications is August 15 and teams will be notified if they have been accepted by September 5th.

Nairobi Geek Girl Hackathon

The Nairobi geek girl hackathon is an event organized by Akirachix and Mobile Garage. The event brings together a group of Women who set out to build applications that are relevant to women in 48hrs. The applications that will be built will be targeted specifically towards women and their needs.

ISSA (Information Security South Africa) 2012

ISSA2012 is the annual conference for the information security community that continues on the successful recipe established in 2001.We are pleased to announce, however, that from 2010, ISSA is co-sponsored by the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society (SMCS) Chapter, a chapter of the IEEE South Africa Section.
