Nigeria’s government gives in to pressure to go fully electronic

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior Affairs, Comrade Abba Moro, will this month unveil the new e-governance portal to stakeholders at a forum to be held in Lagos.

Ministry of Interior Affairs through its Citizenship and Business Department and Anchor Dataware Solutions, (ADS) has since formed a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) project branded “e-Citibiz” aimed at the project.

According to Anchor Dataware Solutions’ chief executive Joel Adi, the system allows flow of data between the public, service professionals, and public service agencies, from multiple regions to access processed centralized information.

The techno-based group, created a system that will shun the traditional ways of going about businesses such as appointments and others.

Adi said that the system would reform the ways in which the government carries out its businesses by improving the commerce and industry, creating employment, and accelerating the economic development of the country.

The system is said to manage data flow as well as help the social services’ agencies manage the bulky growth of information by creating a simplified, faultless system that will present an organized one-stop shop for citizens.

Adi also assured stakeholders of their readiness to position the electronic gateway to transform the department of citizenship and business, adding that it will bring about an economic network of opportunities, through automating the operations of the department and streamlining its Naturalization, Citizenship, Marriage registry and Expatriate Quota management system.

He further added that his team is putting up final additions to the installations and the required infrastructure for the overall success of the project in accordance with the goals of the government.

E-Governance, meaning technology driven governance, is the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for delivering government services such as exchange of information communication transactions, adjustment of systems, and other services between government-to-citizens, government-to-business, government-to-government as well as back office processes and interactions within the government structure.
