Vodacom will tomorrow host South Africa’s first-ever Women’s Developer Workshop focused on providing women with the practical skills essential for developing Android mobile applications.
As part of the Vodacom Developer Programme (VDP), the workshop is expected to empower 30 women participants with an understanding of the processes, techniques and critical skills needed for mobile application development on the Android platform and in general.
VDP is a programme that aims to encourage local coders to develop apps that are localized and relevant to the South African market as well as the global environment.
Prins Mhlanga, Managing Executive of Digital Media at Vodacom, expressed his excitement about the workshop saying, “Our key objective is to empower more women developers so they can bring about change in their lives and communities by designing locally relevant apps. We hope the workshop will inspire more women into app development.”
This workshop will help participants to conceptualize Android application, create an application for Android, package the application for the market, and place an application on the Vodacom marketplace, the mobile service provider’s App store.
“We are planning to rollout a series of these workshops across the country for women that are interested in mobile application development. We are confident that overtime this initiative will encourage women to get actively involved in the creation of an ecosystem of local apps in South Africa,” Mhlanga said.
The workshop will take place at Hotel Accolades Boutique Venue, Midrand from 09h00 to 14h00.
