Nigerian music streaming service iROKING hits 100,000 registered users

World’s top online distributor of Nigerian music iROKING has announced it has reached its 100,000-subscriber milestone barely seven months after launching.

Developed by the owners of iROKOtv, iROKING is a music platform that allows users from anywhere on the globe to have “an easy, free and legal access” to Nigerian and (some) Ghanaian music.

The platform is available on several devices including Android, Windows, Symbian (Nokia) and iOS.

iROKING;s chief executive Michael Ugwu said: “iROKING is all about helping African artists and their fans connect with each other. iROKING came onto the scene to improve the channels for Nigerian artists to reach their fans.”

He added that the raw musical talent in Nigeria is out there and they wanted to build a simple, beautiful platform that highlights the artists and their work.

“What we’ve done with iROKING is bring awesome Nigerian music to the rest of the world; whether it’s on a computer, tablet or smart phone, iROKING is Nigerian music anytime, anywhere.” Ugwu said.

Through iROKING, artistes are able to generate revenue thereby fuelling the musical ecosystem in the two countries.

iROKING also helped bridge the distribution gap that is facing the West African music industry, by directly publishing and promoting the music on platforms such as iTunes and Amazon on behalf of the artistes.

The iROKING platform was created in a way that offers users great experience as they can create their own playlists, tag their favourite tracks, and search music by genre/artists.

Currently, iROKING application allows access to thousands of latest Nigerian tracks, and streams songs over WiFi or 3G.
