Ghana’s Mobile operator Globacom has unveiled a new tariff brandnamed ‘Glo Gista.’ that allows for on-net and off- net calls at reduced and standard rates.
All calls will cost 6Gp (US$ 3.2) per minutes and customers using the network will also get discounts and freebies as a permanent tariff rolls out.
Analysts expect the move to trigger aggressive reactions from other service operators in the country leading to introduction of competitive tariffs.
Globacom Ghana’s head of commercial Augustine Mamuro while addressing journalists at a press conference said the introduction of Glo Gista in Ghana would make sure the services offered by the company are affordable.
According to reports from the Cellphone service provider, Gista’ is a coinage from English word ‘gist’, that means chat and free talk among the youth .The company adopted it to give subscribers the chance to talk limitlessly.
Glo Ghana head of Non-Voice Business Theophelus Agbeko said the call rate per minute from the network provider are the lowest in the region and Glo customers will not have to panic and strain with the common habit of having many Sim cards or mobile handsets to switch favourable charges from different service providers as the rate is the same.
Reports from Glo says the Glo Gista tariff offers 100 percent bonus on recharging, free registration of five family and friend group to make calls and send SMS at 2Gp per minute.
Also, Glo Gista subscribers would get free SMS to any network number for the whole after paying for the first two SMS and a bonus of one minute free after receiving three minutes of calls from another off-net number.
It gives 100 minutes of free night calls to Glo numbers from midnight to 5am every night and free 100 Megabytes of data capacity for browsing free during that period.
The country has four mobile service providers which includes, Tigo that offers on-net tariff of 3Gp (US$ 1.51) on-net and off-net rate is 8.4 Gp (US$ 4.22) on promotion basis. MTN standard on-net is 9Gp (US$ 4.53), Vodafone 14.4Gp but other tariff provides 8Gp standard, Expresso is 9.5 Gp (US$ 4.78) and Airtel on-net is 8.4Gp (US$ 4.22) .
Glo Mobile Ghana was launched in late April with close to has close to 1.5 million customers in the country, some 4.2 percent increase for the last four months.
