Nokia targets Kenya’s photographers with new Nokia 808 PureView

Finnish phone-maker Nokia on Friday launched its new Nokia 808 PureView, with photographers the first on its target list.

Nokia had top photographers preview the imaging specs of its US$622 PureView, including Kenya’s Boniface Mwangi, Joe Makeni, Mutua Matheka, Mwangi Kirubi and David Mutua. The photographers showcased the photos they took with the phone at the Nokia 808 photography exhibition held at the Nairobi National Museum in Nairobi, Kenya.

Bruce Howe, Nokia East Africa general manager, said the PureView has completely raised the bar on imaging performance for the entire smartphone industry.

“We are excited to bring this innovative experience to our consumers in Kenya, especially those who loved the Nokia N8,” he said. “Our consumer research clearly highlights the importance that consumers place on capturing and sharing photos and videos. We are excited to now bring this experience to East African consumers.”

According to Nokia, the smartphone is the first to feature its award-winning PureView technology for high-end smartphone imaging experiences, with high-performance sensors, exclusive Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia-developed imaging algorithms.

The phone has a high-resolution 41-megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology with the ability to save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, and on social networks.

The Nokia 808 PureView also allows full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom and the world’s first use of Nokia Rich Recording. Rich Recording enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality, previously only possible with external microphones.

The Nokia 808 PureView also features exclusive Dolby Headphone technology, transforming stereo content into a personal surround sound experience over any headphones and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel-surround sound playback.

According Nokia, since its launch in February 2012 the Nokia 808 PureView smartphone has received multiple awards, including Best Mobile Device at Mobile World Congress 2012, as well as an award for Best Imaging Innovation for 2012 from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA).
