SONY have announced that the much anticipated update to the PS3 will be available from September 28. The new PS3 system, with a new sleek, smaller and lighter design and 500GB of storage capacity, will be closely followed by a less costly 12GB version.
Owners of the smaller 12GB version will be able to connect a 2.5-inch SATA internal hard drive with use of an official Mounting Bracket, or opt for purchase of an official PlayStation 250GB internal HDD.
This provides for customers a new low-cost entry-level model, as well as the flexibility to expand storage as and when they see fit.
SONY say this is just one of the great peripherals that will be released at the same time alongside a range of other essential accessories, such as a vertical stand that offers more flexibility in how the new PS3 can be displayed.
The 500GB version is reported to be launching as a bundle with the popular football game, FIFA 13, for around US$387, with the 12GB priced at approximately US$296.
According to SONY, it will be launching cost effective games to coincide with the new PS3 launch. The range of games, to be known as PS3 Essentials, will include a wide range of titles available from Assassins Creed: Brotherhood to Sports Champions.
The games will retail at approximately US$25, with many more gaming titles available for download from PlayStation Store from around US$19 (titles marked with an *).
