MTN Ghana has partnered with German broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) to provide its subscribers with a new means to access educational audio content on their mobile phones.
The customers will be charged only one Ghana pesewa (about US$0.005) per minute.
In addition to the educational content, the customers can tune in to the political radio programme Africa Link, one of DW’s latest high-lights for the West African region.
The ‘Learning by Ear’ programming targets teenagers and young adults who make up the largest group of MTN Ghana’s subscriber base. The programming will provide information on topics including HIV/AIDs, human rights, democracy and the environment, with an exciting mix of stories and features.
The partnership comes just a month after MTN Ghana hit 11 million subscribers, making it the number one telecommunications serves provider in Ghana.
MTN is coming up with innovative services in a bid to attract more subscribers onto its network. This is evident from the recent promotions that the telco has been launching, including the MTN Data Month, dubbed i-FEST, of which the company’s chief marketing officer Rahul De said: “Creating exciting packages for data is the most appropriate route for MTN presently.”
Launched in September 2011, the mRadio service allows customers to enjoy a wide range of audio content including music, jokes and educational materials on their phones. It now boasts close to 500,000 listeners.
Deutsche Welle is Germany’s international broadcaster. With DW-TV, DW-RADIO and DW-WORLD.DE, it produces news, background information and cultural highlights worldwide, while creating a platform for intercultural dialogue.
