Vodacom SA offers callers free talk time on latest promotion

South Africa’s integrated telecommunications service provider Vodacom announced the launch of the Vodacom Extra Time promotion over the weekend, enabling its prepaid and top up customers to talk for an hour but only pay for the first three minutes.

Commenting on the Vodacom Extra Time promotion, Phil Patel, Chief Consumer Officer at Vodacom said: “This promotion will reward all our Prepaid and Top Up customers by offering them great value savings on voice calls this summer. This is the type of value that our customers can expect this festive season.”

The Vodacom Extra Time promotion is available between 7am and 8pm on weekdays. To activate the promotion, customers simply need to dial *111# once off at no charge to enjoy 57 minutes free talk time per hour. If the call continues into the second hour, customers will be charged for the first 3 minutes and the next 57 minutes will be free.

The promotion applies to calls made to other Vodacom customers. Cellphone numbers of customers who have ported to other networks can be identified by a “beep tone” before the call connects.

Although many customers will surely welcome this, the market is still seeing many voice and SMS offers as opposed to data offers given the uptake of smartphones in Africa. Data costs still remain high in most of the continent and it will be welcome should the mobile service providers decide to offer more affordable data packages.

The promotion will run from October 15 to 31, 2012.

Vodacom provide voice, messaging, data and converged services to around 50 million active customers across the continent.

For more information customers can contact customer care on 111 free from a Vodacom cellphone or 082 111 from any other phone, or email [email protected]
