Today Allied Technologies Limited (Altech), the Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed multibillion-rand technology group, has announced the appointment of Laurence Savage to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective January 2013.
Craig Venter, the Chief Executive Officer of Altech, says he is pleased to welcome Mr Savage to the Altech Group.
He said: “Mr Savage’s experience globally, his knowledge of the African continent, as well as his educational background and leadership ability, make him a perfect fit for the role of COO given the group’s offering and its future plans,
“We are convinced that Mr Savage will offer insights that will further bolster the Altech management team as we move the group towards sustainable growth,” added Venter.
Savage, whose experience spans various industries, including the media, electronics, engineering and automotive sectors, is expected to bring to the group a wealth of experience, according to Altech.
Savage has previously been Managing Director at Genrec Engineering and Hall Longmore, structural steel fabricators and pipe manufacturing companies respectively. Genrec Engineering and Hall Longmore are part of the Murray and Roberts Group.
He also held the position of Chief Executive at Avis Fleet Services, where he was responsible for the entire Southern Africa cluster.
“I am very pleased to be joining the Altech Group, and inspired about the direction that the group is moving in,” said Savage.
He holds both engineering and business qualifications, with an MBA from Milpark Business School. He has also completed an advanced executive programme at Northwest University in Chicago, USA.
According to Venter, the Altech Group is a multinational organisation that operates in various and unique geographies and needs a strong and talented team to tackle the challenges.
