Interactive multimedia guide of Cape Town launched

Tourism Radio, a South African audio tours firm, has launched a comprehensive Walking Tour of Central Cape, a multimedia guide for tourists, in partnership with Cape Town Tourism.

Walking Tour of Central Cape Town features quality audio and text information on dozens of tourist attractions around the city. Audio clips play automatically as the user approaches specific points of interest in addition to creating a seamless dialogue as the user walks around, Tourism Radio said in a statement.

Mark Allewell, Tourism Radio CEO, said: “Cape Town Tourism joins an elite group of tourism authorities all over the world by using our innovative technology. Coupled with their great travel content, this app gives users the opportunity to experience Cape Town from a different angle.”

Cape Town Tourism offers its robust knowledge of Cape Town and now employs technology throughTourism Radio to provide a mobile audio guide app.

“Today’s urban travellers are highly pedestrian. Not content to see and hear things from behind the windows of a tour bus, they are engaging with the streets and the people on them,” Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold, Cape Town Tourism CEO, said.

Toit-Helmbold said that his company is committed to digital marketing standards.
“We think it’s a perfect blend of technology and storytelling,” he commented.

Tourism Radio is a company that offers audio guides through their apps available for Android and iPhone platforms through their product, Hummba. The company has partnered with Frommer’s Unlimited for a venture that would enable the guide company to diversify covered destinations.

The app will be available only on the iPhone from Oct 25 or only US$0.99, downloadable from the iTunes store.
