As part of the Samsung World Tour featured in Cape Town last week, the Korean electronics manufacturer has unveiled Samsung ATIV S, its first Microsoft Windows 8 powered phone.
Samsung had earlier used a similar event to launch its latest super user smartphone, the Galaxy Note II, for the South African market.
The launch makes Samsung the first mobile phone-maker to launch a phone using Microsoft’s latest mobile software, as it was unveiled earlier this year at IFA. In Cape Town, however, the handsets were on display for the first time.
A glance at the specifications reveals that the AtivS will run on a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, and it will also have 16GB and 32GB on-phone memory, as well as 1GB RAM, and a microSD expansion slot.
Samsung market the phone mainly as a business and entertainment device. It comes standard with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, On-Device Encryption, MDM, Office 365 and Lync.
