New events app integrates Nairobi at DEMO-Africa

Gigham, a new app that aggregates events across cities via social media sites, has announced its arrival in Kenya’s capital Nairobi.

Gigham now has over 10,000 unique visitors monthly and hopes to be the most used event information provider globally in five years.

Speaking to HumanIPO during the DEMO-Africa conference yesterday, Hilton Roth, one of the founders of the startup, said they are aiming to make it the ultimate events and venue aggregation platform in the world.

The startup opened three months ago in cities like Cape Town and Johannesburg. The company then integrated Nairobi onto their platform as they geared up to pitch at the conference.

“We automatically aggregate events from Facebook and other sources. We then categorise them and geo-map them according to cities,” Roth said. “And with that we build the most comprehensive events guide in any city.”

The beauty of the app is that you can drill down to what you want to see, whether by location, date, or type of event being held.

The dynamism of the app makes it usable in many platforms. Roth confirmed that they are working to integrate the application beyond Twitter and Facebook and include popular African social networking sites such as Mxit and 2Go.

And beyond the social networks, users can also use their API or widgets to attach the application to their various websites.

The application monetisation depends on white labelling, advertising and upsell to promoters or venues who want exclusivity from the Gigham brand.

During his presentation, Roth said a high end hotel in South Africa is already using their service and they are already receiving revenue from the plan.

The company is still young, but it is not hindering their ambition. It expects to launch in major cities including Singapore, Lagos and, eventually, New York.
