Huawei launches smartphones, tablet PC in Ghana

China-based global ICT solutions provider Huawei Technologies has introduced three smartphone brands and a tablet PC into the Ghanaian communications market, to avail itself of the huge potentials presented by the country’s notable smartphone uptake.

Huawei Technologies presented products including Huawei Ascend P1, Huawei Honor, dual-SIM Huawei Ascend G302D, and a 7-inch tablet, Huawei MediaPad at a pre-launch interview held in the capital Accra.

Speaking at the event, Yang Fufu, the company’s head of devices, stated that despite the stiff competition with global brands such as BlackBerry, Samsung, Nokia and Tecno, Huawei Ghana is still confident it will be among Ghana’s top three smartphone market shareholders in the next three years. This, he said, is as a result of the quality of the company’s smartphones.

“Our smartphones are of the highest quality and comparable to any smartphone on the market but ours are affordable and so we are targeting that in the next three years we will become one of the top three brands on the market in Ghana,” he said.

Ascend P1 according to Fufu, is “the epitome of beauty colliding with brains.”

He said the smartphone exemplifies the assertion that technology and sleekness can go together. The device runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and it features a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 Cortext-A9 processor and measures 7.69mm thin and 64.8mm long, providing a very comfortable grip in addition to other features.

Huawei Technologies in a statement said the device will be sold at a retail price of GHC799. The company also presented Huawei Honor, yet another smartphone, at the event. The phone has a 1.4GHz processor and 8-megapixel high definition camera.

Huawei Honor is described as a perfect smartphone with a 1900 mAh big capacity battery lifespan. The brand is however cheaper than Ascend P1 given its GHC599 retail price.

While presenting its tablet product, the company’s spokesman stated that the competitive nature of the tablet market compelled Huawei to diligently perfect its tablet – The Media Pad which is fast, very slim, light and clear.

It is also the first tablet computer to support Android Ice Cream Sandwich and phone call function. It also comes with a 7-inch screen 1280 x 800 WXGA IPS, which is presently the clearest screen that gives an incredible 3D visual experience.

The Media Pad has a powerful processing capacity of 1.2GHz dual core CPU. It will retail at GHC899.

Despite the efforts the company has put into the manufacture of its products, Fufu stated that Huawei Ghana is not ignorant of the fact that all devices are prone to “some challenges” hence the company has assembled a local customer service team – an ensemble of professionals that are well trained to efficiently deal with any challenges that users may face.

All the devices presented come with 12 months warranty, according to Huawei Technologies.
