Startup Knight Winner Announcement

Startup Knight is a competition for software based tech startups that want to start a viable business organized by Byte Orbit. Winners of the competition will be announced at the event in Cape Town.

Where: One & Only Hotel, V&A, Cape Town  

Cloud computing – is there a silver lining? is an event featuring Tammy Bortz, Head of the Technology Law Practice at Werksmans and George Ambler, Executive Partner with Gartner Executive Programs as they provide insight into these issues and guide companies through the balancing of benefits and risks to cloud computing.The use of cloud based services is on the increase as companies recognise the many benefits of cloud computing. At the same time, companies are equally aware of the risks inherent in cloud services.

Silicon Cape VC Office Hours

VC Office Hours is a new monthly initiative by Silicon Cape where startups get a chance to ask an investor specific questions regarding the funding processes and aspects different of your entrepreneurship. The format of the sessions will be that six start-up teams and will get a 30-minute question slot on the first Friday of each month with a funder.

#GovHackSA Hackathon

Where: Bandwidth Barn, 3rd Floor, Woodstock Exchange, 66 – 68 Albert Road, Woodstock, Cape Town

#GovHackSA Hackathon is an event looking for developers and coders who want to make a difference by using Government Data to potentially solve community problems. By the developer community and government open data collaboration that can encourage bigger, better solutions which means bigger better innovation, efficiency and improved practical solutions.

HelloComputer Hack-a-thon 2012
When:  10th-11th November
Where: DraftFCB basement Johannesburg, 164 Katherine Street, Sandown

HelloComputer Hack-a-thon 2012 (HC Hack-a-thon)is an event whose objective is to demonstrate innovative and creative thinking and create truly unique hacks, interesting gadgets or interactive tech devices. The event will be documented by HelloComputer but if you want any additional footage you’ll need to hook it up yourself. Food will be provided for the duration of the event and an endless supply of coffee will replace the need for sleep. The winning teams will receive the cash prizes on the final day.

Wireless Wednesday

Where: m:lab East Africa, 3rd Floor, Bishop Magua Centre, George Padmore Rd, Nairobi

Wireless Wednesday is an event organized by m:lab East Africa for the purpose of encouraging interaction between developers/entrepreneurs and potential users of sectoral innovations using mobile tech platforms. This month’s theme touches on understanding Government and NGO’s initiatives in the MHealth Ecosystem in Kenya.
