FirstRand, one of South Africa’s leading financial institutions, has renewed Rand Merchant Bank’s IT outsourcing services contract with Dimension Data, the global IT systems integrator announced today.
Opera 12.10, the latest browser version for desktops also includes Speed Dials for the South African market. “For the first time in the country, Opera Desktop has country specific settings for South Africa,” commented Norway-based Opera, as reported by News24.
Opera has recently collaborated with local firms Kalahari.com and BidorBuy as part of local market e-commerce targeting. The company is optimistic about future growth with steady expansion in apps adaptable to various platforms.
“Betting with the web seems to me to be the only way forward,” Lawson, open standards evangelist at Opera Software, told News24.
The new upgraded browser makes connecting to social media easy with special links to Facebook and Twitter, also modified for practical display and use on mobile devices.
Brand specified extras include a Notifications Centre for Macs and pinch-and-zoom support in Windows 8. The Opera HTML 5 standard version offers a mobile camera access option as well. Lawson describe that this hassle-free feature enables users to view without Flash plug-ins.
“It’s in Chrome, and it’s coming in Firefox – it’s something called getUserMedia and that gives a website access to a device’s camera,” Lawson explained.
Although Opera’s desktop market share is currently 2 percent against universal top slice of 35 percent belonging to Chrome, the browser leads in the mobile ecosystem with efforts to reduce the data footprint of the web page.
