Morocco’s Inwi, mobile network operator, has unveiled a new selection of cellphone packages enabling users to pay only for the services they use.
The move is a welcome effort in the Moroccan mobile sector that has been hit with uncertainty, following France Telecom’s announcement that it was investigating whether or not to sell off its Orange brand in the country, ITNews Africa reported.
According to the company, the move is prompted by the need to lead prepaid users away from using postpaid options. The package, known as the Kibghit series, is offered without the obligatory purchase of a mobile device unlike most other networks offer.
Package goes at 88 MAD (approx US$10).
“Sim-only services and plans with no mobile Internet are offered, with top-ups benefitting from the same double and triple bonuses as the Tic-Tac prepaid service with per-second billing. Customers can add and remove options at any time during the length of their two-year contract,” Inwi’s spokesperson added.
The alternative, among the payment options, sets a standard for all other mobile operators in Morocco, which will benefit Moroccans in a fair, economical way.
Some experts believe it will help rural areas enter the overall market in the country.
Headquartered in Casablanca, Inwi has shot up gaining a place in the market courtesy of its range of offerings land lines, fast Internet connection and 3G services.
As the third mobile operator in Morocco, the service provider covers up to 75 percent of the Moroccan population.
