Gamcel supports sports association with cash donation

Kombo Kerewan Sports Development Association (KKSDA) in Gambia has received a donation of D36,000 (US$1,240) from Gambia’s national mobile telecommunication company, Gamcel.

The sports development association collected the cheque from the telecoms company at a presentation held at Gamcel headquarters in Mamadi Manyang Highway, in the capital Banjul.

In a speech Serign Ceesay, Supervisor of Gamcel, said Gamcel is not restricting itself to the communications sector by merely being interested in providing communication services for its subscribers and Gambia at large.

Instead, he said Gamcel is passionate about giving back to the society and helping out no matter how little its contributions might be.

According to him, although the donation made to the sports body may be small, the company believes the donation will mark the beginning of a fruitful relationship and partnership between Gamcel and the Kombo Kerewan Sports Committee.

He concluded by challenging members of the committee to work towards developing sports in Gambia.

Responding on behalf of the committee Ismaila K Jammehthe, secretary general of KKSDA, assured Gamcel the goal of the KKSDA is to develop sports in Gambia. According to him, a sizable amount of the inhabitants of Kombo Kerewan village, about 80 percent, are on the Gamcel network.
