Nokia launches Lumia series in Lagos, but offers it exclusively on MTN Nigeria

Nokia has launched its latest mobiles, the Windows Phone 8 enabled Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820, in Lagos.

The innovative products were presented at an event organised in partnership with Microsoft and major telecoms company, MTN Nigeria who will be the sole operator on the new series.

Nokia announced it would offer consumers who purchase the latest devices with six months of free unlimited internet access via MTN, the largest and widest telecommunications network in Nigeria.

James Rutherford, Vice President of Nokia West Africa, said Nokia Lumia 820 and Nokia Lumia 920 are “business ready”. He added the devices are loaded with a full business suite which includes Microsoft Office suite, Sky Drive and Microsoft Lync. The Lumia series, he said, is aimed at satisfying the needs of business and non-business smartphone owners.

“These are the best devices we have made in the smartphone category and we believe that this is going be much appreciated by our consumers. At Nokia, our focus is to bring the very best of technology to our consumers which aid, excite and benefit their work and social lives,” Rutherford said.

On why Nokia has decided to offer the devices exclusively on MTN Nigeria, he said the rationale behind the decision was to enable users to have an all-round experience of the various features.

“With the groundbreaking technology incorporated in these devices, we are giving consumers every reason to switch to Lumia. What’s more, we are also giving them the opportunity to pre-order the devices on Jumia.com, along with the chance to win a wireless charger or other cool Nokia accessories at discounted prices,” the Nokia executive said.

Emmanuel Onyeje, Country Manager of Microsoft Anglophone West Africa, said Windows 8 is a re-imagined Windows presented to the world and allows users to enjoy personalized experiences which the partnership with MTN and Nokia will further ensure.
