Finnish phone maker Nokia, ailing internationally but popular in Africa, has challenged some of South Africa’s top musicians and DJs to remix the classic Nokia tune, originally known as the Grande Valse.
The well-known Nokia ringtone tune now has six remixes, all available on the Nokia South Africa blog to download for free.
The artists who were involved with this initiative include DJ Invizable, DJ Kenzhero, Jax Panik, Bittereinder, Das Kapital and P.H. Fat.
Known as the masked man behind the avant-electro act Gazelle, DJ Invizable created a track reminiscent of the Nokia tune with his signature sound. DJ Kenzhero’s remix of the tune is a combination of of hip hop, soul and jazz.
Fans who get involved by voting for their favourite remix stand a chance to win a Nokia Music Store voucher and can choose from more than 15 million local and international tracks to download from.
