Liberia’s Cellcom rewards subscribers with 100 motorbikes, provides protective jumpsuits

Liberia’s National Excellence Award winning telecommunications company, Cellcom, is to give away a motorbike to a customer each day for 100 days, hoping will empower citizens.

One randomly picked customer will win a bike each day after they partnered with manufacturing company Bajaj Motorcycles.

“Our company has always tried to find unique and diverse ways to support the Liberian people,” said Avishai Marziano, Chief Executive of Cellcom.

“We know that transportation is a big issue and motorbikes are one way to alleviate this problem. We also see this as an opportunity for lucky winners who are interested in starting such a business to have a new source of income, which will help them to improve the lives of themselves and their families,” Marziano said.

Kimmie Weeks, Cellcom’s Chief Corporate Communications Strategist, expressed the concerns of the company about the safety of the lucky beneficiaries, which he said has led them to buying full protective jumpsuits, helmets, and heavy duty protective gloves which would be given to winners.

“The safety of our customers and pedestrians is our primary concern and so even as we are providing these bikes, we are also making sure they come with all of the latest safety gear to protect our customers,” Weeks said.

To qualify to win, Weeks said Cellcom subscribers need to top up their calling credits. He added: “Essentially, for every dollar a customer scratch, they get a raffle ticket. So the more a customer purchases, the more raffle tickets they receive in our system, and the more chances they have to win.”
