Africa Portal is marking its second year in existence as a resource policy portal for African educationalists.
The online resource centre, featuring a free online library collection, an opinion and analysis collection and an expert’s directory, is also compatible with mobile technology.
The site gives crucial research papers on challenges that are affecting the continent. “From climate change and energy issues to food security, conflict resolution, health and migration”. The platform also gives a publishing opportunity for Africa’s policymakers.
The site has hosted 92 projects in collaboration with the Africa Initiative’s exchange and research programmes. It has also recorded 220,000 visitors from 207 countries, with 102,000 coming from 54 states in Africa.
More than 8,000 users on a monthly basis have accessed the site’s library, with more than 13,000 articles viewed per month.
“As we enter our third year of activity, we’re seeing sharp growth in both content and in users — especially in Africa but also in policy centers across the globe,” says Erica Shaw, programme manager of the Africa Initiative.
“In a short amount of time the Africa Portal has established itself as the world-leading policy and research resource on Africa, and we’re committed to making sure it’s accessible to all users, including those in low-bandwidth situations,” she said.
Africa Portal is part of the Africa Initiative, a project for The Centre for International Governance Innovation and South African Institute of International Affairs.
The portal has dedicated a special infographic page to highlights its achievements over the years.
