Antivirus software tycoon John McAfee, currently in a Guatemalan detention centre as he flees Belizean police, has spoken of his desire to return to the United States in an Internet broadcast.
The fugitive millionaire is in detention in Guatemala after illegally entering the country last week, in an attempt to evade Belizean police. McAfee is wanted in connection with the murder of his neighbour, but claims police want to kill him for speaking out against corruption.
McAfee has now spoken from the detention centre, answering what he said were reporters’ questions and denying involvement in the murder of Gregory Faull. He said he and his girlfriend wanted to return to the United States.
“Our intent is to return to America and settle down to whatever normal life we can settle down to under the circumstances,” he said. “I simply would like to live comfortably day by day, fish, swim, enjoy my declining years,” he said.
A request for asylum in Guatemala has been lodged. McAfee has also sold the rights to a film about his life to Impact Future Media, which is now hunting for investors in the project.
