Google Maps shoots to the top of Apple’s App Store

iPhone users have responded to the return of Google Maps to their devices by sending the application to the top of the charts in Apple’s App Store just hours after it was launched.

The long-awaited return was confirmed in the early hours of Thursday morning, with rapid take-up of the popular mapping application further evidence of just how wrong Apple got their effort – Apple Maps.

HumanIPO reported last week Australian police had even joined the debate by issuing a public notice saying the application could be “life threatening”.

Its launch onto Apple’s latest operating system, iOS6, was necessitated after Apple originally ditched Google in favour of pushing their own product.

But numerous embarrassing location errors led to Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook into a rare apology and he encouraged users to switch to another provider.

Apple Maps is still available and the technology giant said they are still addressing the mistakes.
