Opera Mobile Store, the world’s fifth largest mobile app store, has announced the 2012 Top Awards winners, following user nomination of the best apps on the mobile apps store.
- PB Shell 3D Android – Enjoy Your Phone for Android;
- Friends, Fun, Free for Java;
- eBuddy XMS for BlackBerry;
- Nimbuzz Messenger Chat and Call for Symbian.
Opera Software launched the Top Awards this year, aimed at recognising the most popular apps in its collection of over 80,000 free and paid apps on Opera Mobile Store, reported to have over 50 million monthly users who access it through Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers.
Opera also recognized top three apps for each platform namely Android, Symbian, BlackBerry and Java. These top apps were classified under the following categories: Business & Finance, Communication, E-Books, Entertainment, Games: Action, Games: Arcade, Games: Cards, Games: Sports, Health, Languages and Translators, Multimedia, Organizers, Ringtones, Themes and Skins, Travel and Maps and Utilities.
The winners were selected through voting, where users nominated their best apps on the Opera Mobile Store between November 15 and November 22. Users arrived at this page by going to the respective app page and selecting the “Opera Top App” to cast the vote.
Founded in 1994, Opera Software was created on the basis that access to the Web should be a universal right. Over 275 million people all over the world use the Opera web browser on their devices.
Since launching the Opera Mobile Store, many developers have benefited from registering and submitting their apps at no cost.
Opera is mostly used in the developing markets including South Africa, India, Russia, Brazil and Indonesia.
