Nigeria has a rich history of online fraud, but according to the Chief Executive of Konga.com “building trust” has been the key reason for the online retailer‘s growing visitor numbers in the past 12 months.
Online retail sites have suffered from a suspicious and sceptical public when it comes to parting with money electronically.
According to Sim Shagaya, Konga.com had to overcome the challenge of gaining people’s trust in conducting secure online transactions.
He said: “Konga.com has been able to build trust in Nigeria as it has demonstrated credibility in quality of products and service delivery. We identified the issues with online shopping in Nigeria and discovered that there are issues of secure payment, long delivery times and inconsistent quality of goods delivered.
“This prompted the idea of payment on delivery which affords customers the convenience of checking their goods to verify quality and quantity before making payment.”
He added the website also had to guarantee Nigerians of the safety of their financial details by creating a secure shopping platform coupled with an impressive customer service.
Another feature of the website is customers have a variety of secure payment options which
include online bank transfer, bank deposits and direct online payment. They can also purchase items with debit cards issued by Nigerian banks.
To further make transaction easier for its customers, Konga.com has partnered with Nigeria’s major online payment solutions company Interswitch.
