A Department of Information Technology (IT) Operations has been created by Liberia’s General Auditing Commission (GAC) as part of its desire to uphold a vibrant audit service.
The new department is under the leadership of Mariama Kaba-Marshall, a professional software engineer, described the responsibilities of the new department which includes the broadening of the scope of the current Information Technology Unit at the General Auditing Commission.
The new department will centralise basic internal and external information concerning the operations of the GAC.
A statement issued by the commission said: “The IT Operations Department is a reliable infrastructure unit of the General Auditing Commission that makes communication accessible, secure, reliable and faster.
“The IT Operations Department is also intended to make the work of the GAC more accessible and friendly in terms of getting work done faster through technology. The new IT Operations focus point is to link the GAC with other financial institutions seeking basic information from the General Auditing Commission.
“The IT Operations Department serves as a nerve point of the General Auditing Commission in protecting all of its documents in case of damaged or power failure.”
Describing the capacity of Kaba-Marshall to lead the new department, the GAC said she is gifted with vast international experience.
She holds a Masters Degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering and has worked with several international banking institutions including the Bank of America where she was Senior Software Engineer.
