Chinese pay-TV company StarTimes has added six more channels to its bouquets for subscribers across Kenya as it looks to add additional content ahead of the country’s digital migration.
The channels – NBA TV, Fine Living Network, Setanta Action, WAP TV, Triple P and Jim Jam – will be accessible to customers on the classic, unique and unique plus bouquets for between KSh1,000 ($11.76) and KSh2,500 ($29.40).
Triple P will provide exclusive Kenyan content including music and drama targeting both family and commercial viewers, such as banks, malls and restaurants, having been licensed by the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) to air local content in public places.
Another channel broadcasting local content is WAP TV, which will add an African touch with shows such as Superstory, Thislife and Oddworld.
According to StarTimes chief executive officer (CEO) Leo Lee the new channels will give the platform a competitive edge over its competitors and further entrench it as the pay-TV service provider of choice.
“We remain steadfast in giving our subscribers value for their commitment to StarTimes; the added channels confirm our rich content diversity as we look into meeting the television viewing tastes for the whole family. This will not have a cost implication and will be available among the three popular bouquets to ensure the majority of our subscribers do access and enjoy our programming,” he said.
StarTimes further said it will be further enriching its channel packaging ahead of the planned December 13 analogue television signal switchoff in Nairobi by additional content at an economical package.
“Content will be a key differentiator to retain and attract new subscribers especially after switch off of the analogue signals, with over 70 Premium channels on our platform currently and our highest package going for just KSh2,499, we remain the most affordable Pay Television provider with an equally unrivaled channel offering,” said Lee.
