Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates will be able to access their results through their mobile phones when the results are released today, relieving them the need to travel to schools or examination centres.
According to the Education Ministry, some 811,900 students will receive results for the KCPE almost a month after the customary release dates, due to the delayed examinations following a teachers’ strike that lasted up to a month.
Pupils will now be able to receive their results just minutes after they are released, thanks to investments in ICT by the examinations body the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
The pupils and their guardians can send their index numbers to 5052, KNEC said.
According to KNEC boss Paul Wasanga, after finding out their results in this way candidates can access hard copy results from their respective learning institutions.
“After the release, candidates are advised to collect their exam results from their respective centers where they registered. Candidates who have their results withheld will receive a letter through their head teachers explaining why the results have been withheld,” he said.
This is a relief to many candidates who in the past would be forced to wait on jammed telephone lines for hours to know their results. For candidates in areas where telecommunications is a challenge, they would have been forced to wait longer, up to two days, to know their performances as the results would have to be transported manually, with some areas like Moyale, over 970 kilometres from KNEC headquarters in Nairobi, taking even longer due to dilapidated or poor road infrastructure.
Once the candidates have received their results, they will have an extra 30 days to lodge complaints with the examinations body.
