SA’s ‘I’m Bored’ service launches Android app

The ‘I’m Bored’ Facebook pages, which lists events, activities and services for children in Johannesburg and Durban, have launched an Android app ahead of the holidays.

‘I’m Bored’ went live on Facebook in August with its service for Cape Town, and launched for Johannesburg in September. The pages now have over 20,000 fans in total, and provides activity ideas for parents.

“Busy parents have little time to search for information and often don’t know where to find things to do,” said a press statement. “The great thing with this app is that ‘I’m Bored’ consolidates family-friendly information and pushes notifications and content to the user through a simple and easy to navigate activity feed.”

The app allow users to bookmark and set calendar reminders for upcoming activities, while a map view provides visualisation of what’s on nearby.

Creator Lorraine Steyn told HumanIPO: “As a mom, I’d always wanted a service like this. My young son has helped bring the idea to fruition, as we search for a way to deliver a What’s On service that is aimed at both parents and children.”

Steyn said she and her developers hoped to bring other cities online in the new year.

“We hope to find a curator for Durban next, and then look to other countries where there is demand for the ‘I’m Bored’ service,” she said.

The service also allows event organisers to pay to promote events, which has been successfully piloted on Facebook, and provides a service provider directory.

‘I’m Bored’ can be downloaded from the Google Play store, with an iOS version due next year.
